William "Bill" Scheid, 84 of Winslow, Arizona, passed away at home on August 9, 2019.
Bill was born in Marshall County, Iowa on November 1,1934 to Leonard and Gladys Scheid. He loved farming but due to his severe asthma, was forced to move his family to Arizona in 1961. While working for the Rainbow Bread Co, he obtained supervisor status. In 1967, he purchased a Holsum Bread distributorship and the family moved to Winslow, Arizona. Over the years, as a wholesale food distributor, he added Archway Cookies, Mission Foods, Laura Scudder Chips, and Little Debbie's Snacks. In 1975 his business ventures went in a different direction with the purchase of the Roto-Rooter Franchise and then in 1985 adding Bill's Septic Pumping to the list.
After being widowed, he reconnected with friend, Marian Bligh Blair. Their friendship grew into a loving romance and they were married in 1983. Bill loved traveling, barbecuing and gardening, growing an impressive garden every year. He was a 50 year member of the BPOE 536. Bill was a very loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He would do anything needed to help his family and friends.
Bill is survived by Marian, his wife of 37 years. Children, David Scheid (Cynthia) of Prescott Valley, Arizona; Julie Meyers of Boca Raton, Florida; Diane McKinney of Hawthorne, California; Kay Shaver (Mike) of Eugene, Oregon and Jeffrey Blair (Michelle) of Chandler, Arizona. Brother, Leland Scheid (Monna) of Nevada, Iowa; sister-in-law Roberta Scheid of Montour, Iowa and sister Mary Laird of Creston, Iowa.
He leaves 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Gladys Scheid; brother Leonard (Bud) Scheid; sister Ardis and husband Gordon Hemping; brother-in-law Dave Laird and son-in-law Larry Meyers. The family wants to express their heartfelt thanks to Bill's devoted friend Joel Lewis and honor the special friendship they had.
Memorial services will be Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Hillview St., Winslow, Arizona and on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10:00am at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour, Iowa. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour, Iowa.
